Abstract
To determine how specific job attributes influenced hospital nurses¡¯ preference for a hypothetical job posting. We used a discrete choice experiment(DCE) that assessed how hospital nurses¡¯ preference for a certain hospital choice was influenced by various job attributes: location of the hospital, type of hospital, salary per year, promotion opportunities, provision of welfare, organizational culture, leadership of head nurse, and nurse staffing levels. We collected data from 280 hospital nurses in South Korea using a brief structured questionnaire and we used conditional logit model to estimate the utility of each job¡¯s attributes. The WTP(willingness to pay) was calculated, which means the amount that can be given up for the improvement in the level of the applicable factors. In the main effects of conditional logit model, promotion within 10 years and nurse staffing grades of 1st-2nd grades were most strongly associated with hospital choice of hospital nurses. The WTP was 14,536,200 KRW for promotion within 10 years and 17,858,080 KRW for nurse staffing grades of 1st-2nd grades. Better nursing working conditions, such as a quick promotion and providing adequate nurse staffing levels, can improve job posting for hospitals in rural areas.
